Marigaon Profile


Marigaon is a small town located in the Brahmaputra valley. It is the administrative headquarters and municipal board office of the Marigaon district of Assam.

History:

Marigaon district was a sub-division of Nagaon district since 26th January 1972.

Demography:

According to the 2001 census, Marigaon had a population of 20,807. The average literacy rate is 76% and the population percentage of males to females is 52% to 48%. The population of Marigaon comprises mainly of Hindu and Muslim community.

Economy:

Agriculture is the main occupation of the people of Marigaon. The people cultivate crops like vegetables, jute, wheat, mustard and paddy. Handloom industry and Small Scale Industries as well as animal husbandry are other employment means of the people of Marigaon.
