The town of Marigaon has many tourist places including the famous Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary in the district. Some of the other tourist places in Marigaon are:
Sitajakhala is located in Marigaon district. The area was found during the fourth decade of the last century. It is famed for the ancient temple located on the banks of the Killing River. The temple is adorned by idols and statues of Lord Hanuman and Goddess Sita on its walls. The temple is connected with the river by a series of stone steps. According to legends, Sage Valmiki cut out these stone as steps for Goddess Sita to go to the river from the temple when she was pregnant and left by Lord Ram. As such, the steps got the name Sitajakhala. The place is rich in cattle population. The temple can be easily accessed from Jagiroad. The nearest railway station is the Jagiroad Railway Station.
Marigaon also has Asia’s largest Dry Fish market where different sea
water and fresh water fish are found. The Joon Beel Mela held in the
Assamese month of Magh is a famous Mela where barter system of goods is
carried on among local people.
Deosal Shiva Temple:
The Deosal Shiva temple is located 4
kms away from Jagiroad town by NH 37. It is a big ancient temple of
Lord Shiva. According to legend, Deosal was the Ashram of Sage Valmiki
where, Goddess Sita was left by Lord Rama. Shivratri is the major
festival celebrated in this temple. The place is easily accessible by
road as NH 37 cuts through this place. There are regular buses and
vehicles available from Marigaon and Jagiroad to this temple. The
nearest railway station is Jagiroad. One can also see the Shivakund
waterfall n the nearby Amsoi hills.
